Get All You Can

Scripture: Proverbs 6:6-11
6 Go to the ant, you sluggard;
consider its ways and be wise!
7  It has no commander,
no overseer or ruler,
8  yet it stores its provisions in summer
and gathers its food at harvest.

Scripture Memory: Ephesians 2:8-10
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Journey: We had originally planned to spend four weeks in our sermon series on “God’s Wisdom for Your Money” but are going to extend that by one week. On our last Sunday (12/04) the subject will be “Living for the Long Haul in a Short Trip World.” Our subject today is “Get All You Can – Work Hard.”

Having a strong work ethic (working hard) may be a forgone conclusion for most of us but there is more to a biblical theology of work than just working hard. You have to also ask questions like, “How hard is too hard? How much rest do I need? Does my work define who I am? Does my job rule my life?” Sometimes our assumptions about, and practices of, work shape our lives more than we realize. Therefore, let’s grab our bibles, open them up and see what God’s word has to say about this critical aspect of our lives.

Your most important work is likely when you are on your knees,

It is more blessed to give than to receive

Today, we will focus on the subject of giving.  Jesus Christ himself said “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”  However, many of us find it challenging to give to the church and to the less fortunate, especially during these trying economic times.  Pastor Mike will tell us more about what the Bible has to say about the practice of giving and how and why it can, and should be done.

If you have missed any of the sermons, we would encourage you to go online and listen prayerfully. As you do that, ask God to give you insight into your financial “state” and to help you make the changes that are necessary to move you towards health and freedom. While you are at it – how about praying for our church, at large, concerning these subjects?

God’s Wisdom For Your Money: Say No to Debt

ScriptureProverbs 22:7

“The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower becomes the lender’s slave.”

Scripture MemoryHebrews 9:27; Rom 10:9

. . . people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment (Heb 9:27)

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Rom 10:9)

Journey: For today’s “Journey” let’s just review our sermon subjects for the month of November (which are listed in a “logical” order below but also have the corresponding dates printed to their right side). To live with financial wisdom you must. . .

1. Get All You Can – Work Hard (11/27)
2. Save All You Can – Live Simply  (11/6)
3. Say No to Debt – It’s the New Slavery (11/13)
4. Give All You Can – Be Generous (11/20)

If you have missed any of the sermons in this series I would encourage you to go online and listen prayerfully to what you’ve missed. God’s Wisdom For Your Money: Save All You Can

ScriptureProverbs 3:9-10

Honor the Lord with your substance and with the first fruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine.

Scripture Memory:  Romans 3:23; 6:23

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

“The wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Journey: For today’s “Journey” let’s just recap our sermon series on money to this point in bullet form. Here’s where we’ve been: To live with financial wisdom you must. . .

  1. Realize that God is the source, and the owner, of everything you possess
  2. Realize that money is not a measure of true success
  3. Realize that money is not a source of true happiness
  4. Realize that always wanting more money is an expression of greed
  5. Realize that you will enjoy life much more if you give than if you don’t

Over the next four weeks we’re driving at getting very practical as we continue this study on money. Here’s today’s subject: “To live with financial wisdom you must save all you can.” As is common, I’d like to leave you with a question. “Do you believe it is possible to both save all you can and to give all you can throughout your life?” Think it through . . .

May God bless you and prosper you in every way,

By Who’s Wisdom Do You Live?

ScriptureProverbs 23:4-5

 Do not wear yourself out to get rich;
have the wisdom to show restraint.
Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone,
for they will surely sprout wings
and fly off to the sky like an eagle.

Scripture Memory:  Romans 10:9

“If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord” and believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Journey: To help us develop a more biblical philosophy of finances we’re in the second week of our new sermon series called: “He Always Gives Enough”

Broadly speaking, there are two major sources of thought for how we should view material resources. One source says, work hard, plan carefully, acquire as much as you can, enjoy what is yours. The other source says work hard, plan carefully, acquire as much as you can, enjoy what you have but it also says, “You will find your greatest joy in giving away all that you possibly can. So be wise and do it!”

If I were to say to you, “There is no doubt in my mind that the second source represents God’s plan as revealed in the Bible, this is Jesus’ desire for you” would you believe that is true? That is such a critical question to answer. Here’s another important question to answer: “If we see that this really is God’s plan for us are you willing to step out in faith, change your thinking and have your life changed by “Just Doing It”?

Praying for generosity to grow even more,

Will (for the pastors)
